Fresh from the partnership announced with Alstom last month, Siemens has released a video showing another business relationship the German company is part of. Titled Intermodal travel made easy, the video shows an app made for the Swiss train operating company, Südostbahn, which enables users to create seamless journeys linking the train with other forms of transport, such as bike or bus. The app removes the need to deal with cash altogether by calculating the best fare for each journey, also providing directions throughout the entire journey.
The video’s protagonist, a teenage girl making her way from a Südostbahn train to the Restaurant Tournant Panoramique Le Kuklos, a revolving restaurant in the south east of Switzerland, even manages to pay for and open the gates for the mountain gondola that leads to the restaurant. The opening of the gates is made possible by Siemens’ SiMobility JustGo technology that utilises the Bluetooth functionality installed on smartphones to create a completely hands-free ticketing system.
