Video of the Week: What can we expect in rail by 2045?

Posted by Emily O'Dowd on Jan 6, 2017

future video.jpgHappy New Year to our readers and subscribers! As we begin the new year, SmartRail World have started questioning the latest innovations that are likely to take shape throughout 2017 and looking forward into the not so distant future. Whilst for many, 2045 may seem a long way ahead, it is not for the rail pioneers and innovators among us. In 2016 we heard a lot about the hyperloop development, autonomous vehicles and high-speed rail, but what's new on the horizon? In 2017 we can hope to see new advancements for the future of our rail network - connecting cities, countries and continents for smart cities of the future.

By 2045 we could see: predictive maintenance carried out by robot drones, high-speed driverless vehicles, automatic freight trains and automatic sensors. As the growing urban population increases by 1.5 million every week it is important that our rail transport responds to these changes whilst maintaining its efficiency and seamless connections with other modes of transport.

This video provides a glimpse into the future as we can expect some of these alien-like machines to one day become the norm...

SmartRail World will bring this new video feature to you every Friday! We will present an array of interesting, bizarre and informative videos for your entertainment. If you come across a video that you would like to share on our website then please send your suggestions to
