March rail and metro tenders: who wants what and where?

Who: Network Rail.

What: Tender for Digital and General Railway Modelling.

Contract value: £3 – 4.5million

Dates: Ongoing

Further details: A railway modelling simulator that is able to accurately model the railway and capacity under digital railway operation (ETCS) as well as current signalling systems. The simulator must also be able to handle the use of externally produced plug-ins, and training to NR staff is also expected to be made available.

Who: Irish Rail (Iarnrod Eireann — IE)

What: Tender for the supply of a new National Train Control Centre (NTCC), which will replace the existing Centralised Traffic Control Centre (CTCC), which dates from the 1970s. 

Dates: expects to award the contract in April 2017. 

Further Information:  IE says the NTCC is necessary due to capacity restraints with the existing facility, which oversees 75% of the network and ageing IT systems. The new centre, which will integrate signalling and communications control across the entire 2,400km IE network, will optimise rail traffic management and origin-to-destination performance, provide accurate real-time travel information and improve train performance.

SmartRail Europe 2016

Who: Amtrak

What: Input on commercial and technical approaches to monetizing its planned Trackside Network (TSN) program. Northeastern US.

When: Deadline 28th March 2016.

Who: Indian Railways

What: Dedicated freight corridor (DFC) projects.

When: Opening end of March 2016

Value: $2.57 billion

More: The tender contract will be civil work contract of 1100 km route on the Western Freight Corridors route. DFC will be completed in phases between 2017 and 2019, Sinha said, while calling private investments citing tremendous opportunities in the project.

Who: New South Wales Government

What: First steps in the long process of awarding development rights for the space above new stations planned for Sydney.

Dates: Ongoing

Further details: The Government is believed to have issued tender documentation for the design of high-rise towers above six new stations on the Metro City and Southwest line. The Sydney Morning Herald reports the sites include valuable Martin Place, Pitt Street and Barangaroo real estate in the city, as well as Waterloo in the inner east, Victoria Cross in North Sydney and Chatswood. It is understood applicants will be asked to submit concept designs ahead of a more detailed, competitive process. The design tender will also give Transport for NSW insight into engineering and station access restrictions to consider as part of station design process.

Who: ViaRail (Canada)

What: Electronic railway signal inspection solution

When: Closing 18th April.

More: The intent of this request for proposal is to obtain an electronic platform and services solution from a Service Provider which offers an Inspection and Maintenance of Signal Infrastructure Solution. The solution shall assist VIA’s infrastructure team to maintain and configure assets on location in the field and complete timely tests and inspections to comply with federal and railroad requirements. VIA is seeking for a ready-built, modular, and proven Inspection and Maintenance of Signal Infrastructure Solution.

What: Initial bids for Greek state-owned freight and passenger rail company Trainose. 

Old date: April 26th 

New date: May 31st

Why? The government’s privatization agency Taiped said it was extending the deadline to April 15 to give potential investors more time to prepare their offers for 100 percent control of Trainose.
