We also asked some of the team at SmartRail World ( @SmartRailWorld ) what their favourite rail journey was:

Luke Upton, Editor: “For me, it’s probably back home in Wales, on the line to Carmarthen from Swansea. It’s only a small train but if you sit on the left-hand side you get stunning sea-views nearly the whole way. Perhaps the highlight is as you go past Ferryside and you are given a panorama across the Tywi estuary towards the village and castle of Llansteffan. If the window is open you can sometimes here the bells of the boats and always get a blast of fresh sea air.”

Stephen Scott, Marketing Manager: "The Death Train in Bolivia - it lived up to its name...!"Florence, Italy

Toye Kayode, Senior Commercial Manager: "I travelled across Germany on a work trip once where I took the Stuttgart to Karlsruhe rail line. It was a great chance to take in the breathtaking views the country has to offer."

Italy railway-min.jpgJames Pickard, Events Producer ( @James_SmartRail ): "I once took a magical journey from Verona across the sea to the beautiful island of Venice."

Liam Clancy, Sales Manager: "Rome to Florence - A scenic and lush journey through the countryside that I'll never forget. It was one of the best ways to view the sights that Italy has to offer!"

Sarah Wright, Marketing Executive: "Arriving at Colchester Zoo as a child, the one thing that I wanted to do was ride the train. This hop-on-hop-off train through the zoo was an exhilarating journey was my a favourite spot to practice my photography skills, although the pictures were not quite social media worthy back then I still enjoyed the view of the wolves, monkeys and petting zoo – much better than being stuck on a night train in Vietnam for 24 hours anyway!"

Rosie Nixon, Operations Manager: "An exciting train journey for me as a child was travelling from London to Penzance, in the Western corner of Cornwall. We always took this journey at the beginning of each summer holiday to go to the seaside!"

Emily O'Dowd, Content Executive ( @SmartRailEmily ): "I was able to experience the last steam train ride through the North Norfolk coastal countryside along the Poppy Line. You can't be the old fashioned steam train!"
